Are you interested in reviewing mysteries for Mysterious Reviews? If so, please read through the following guidelines for publishing your review on Mysterious Reviews (and Mystery Books News). • You are the copyright holder. We publish your review with your permission. If you request it, we will provide a webite or e-mail address to be shown with your review. • You must affirm that you were not paid by the author, publisher, or publicist to review the book for which a review has been submitted for publication on Mysterious Reviews. • At the present time, we are not able to compensate reviewers for their reviews. Eventually we'd like to develop some sort of revenue sharing model, but that is not something we can provide now. • You agree not to publish your review elsewhere, in print or electronically, for a period of one year after publication on Mysterious Reviews. Reviews submitted to us are exclusive to Mysterious Reviews and Mystery Books News during this one year period. We make an exception for authors who wish to reproduce reviews on their own sites with proper attribution. • Mysteries reviewed here should be recently (within the past 6 months) published. We rarely publish reviews of books published more than one year ago. We will make exceptions on a case-by-case basis. • We try to apply a broad definition to the mystery genre, but we do not consider true crime or horror to be mystery. • You should have your own source of ARCs or books. We may occasionally be able to provide you with ARCs or books, or direct potential sources of ARCs or books to send them to you, but you should not count on that. • Reviews should be at least 300 and generally less than 700 words in length. We would prefer that no more than 50% of the text be an overview, or synopsis, of the book. • In addition to your review, we ask that you rate the book on a scale of 1 (worst) to 5 (best). • We do not have a set schedule for publishing reviews. Reviews are published as they become available from our reviewers. Though we have no minimum requirement for number of reviews submitted, we ask all regular contributors to try to submit at least 6 reviews annually. • Reviewed books may be of any format (hardcover, paperback, ebooks) or from any source (major publisher, specialty publisher, or self-published), but they must be readily available for readers to purchase. We generally do not publish reviews of books that are not, for example, available from Amazon.com. • Submitted reviews will be formatted into a standard template we use for all reviews. You may look at a typical review by clicking on any review link from the home page. This template tends to evolve over time so may change without notice. If these guidelines are acceptable to you, please send a message to reviews@omnimystery.com to express your interest. We will promptly respond. |
