Gone Without a Trace
A Logan Point Novel of Romantic Suspense by Patricia Bradley
Review: Two women have disappeared after serving their shifts as waitresses at the Johnny B's Truck Stop and Restaurant in Logan Point, Mississippi. Robyn Martin, wife and mother of a daughter, vanished over two years ago. Her family received one disturbing note from her in two years: She asked her family to forgive her and not try to find her. Because of this, her family had to believe she left voluntarily. Now, just recently, Samantha Jo Woodson has disappeared. Samantha Jo vanished after her routine Saturday night shift at Johnny B.'s. Senator Woodson from Texas hires Alex Jennings, a Dallas private investigator, to go to Logan Point to find out what happened to his granddaughter, in Gone Without a Trace, the third mystery in this series by Patricia Bradley.
Livy Reynolds, a homicide detective in Memphis, has returned to her home in Logan Point on personal leave, filled with guilt because she shot and killed a teenaged boy who, after he had robbed a store, was pointing the gun at her. She ordered him to drop the gun, but when he pointed it at her, Livy shot and killed him. When she picked up his gun she found it to be a toy. She believed she should have guessed as much, and as a result asked for some time off. Back in Logan Point, Livy volunteers to help Alex in his probe to find Samantha Jo. In going over the few facts that are known, Livy realizes that Samantha Jo's story is almost identical to her cousin Robyn Martin's disappearance. She can't help but feel the cases are connected. Livy and Alex find evidence of other women disappearing from other truck stops along this particular route. The difference is that while they had been abducted they were later released. The abductor of the women did not sexually assault them. He was just adamant that they should quit their jobs as waitresses and stay at home to take care of their children. But why were Robyn and Samantha Jo not released, if, indeed, they had been taken by the same man. Livy and Alex's task is filled with danger, intrigue, and mystery. And there is a hint that two may have feeling for each other.
The two principal characters in Gone Without a Trace have a tremendous amount of inner strength and are realistically drawn. The suspense in the well-developed and played out storyline is only broken by the nascent and rather sweet romance developing between them. This is a wonderful mystery displaying faith, family, forgiveness and love.
