Bridges Burned by Annette Dashofy, a Mysterious Review.

Review: After paramedic and temporary deputy coroner Zoe Chambers prevents a man from certain death by rushing into a burning home to save his wife, she invites him and his daughter Maddie to stay with her on her farm. But Sheriff Pete Adams thinks this is a bad idea, as he suspects the man of killing his wife for the insurance money, in Bridges Burned, the third mystery in this series by Annette Dashofy.

Holt Farabee had been evicted from his home for defaulting on the mortgage payments, so the house that burned was supposed to be empty. No one is quite sure why his wife was inside. While the investigation proceeds, Holt and Maddie move onto Zoe's farm. Sheriff Adams is concerned for Zoe's safety, but she thinks he is completely wrong about Holt. And then another body is found, one that would seem to have nothing to do with Holt Farabee. That is, until Holt disappears and Maddie is apparently kidnapped, adding a complication to the case that seems to have no solution in sight.

Bridges Burned is a high-tension mystery with plenty of twists and turns. This credibly plotted whodunit is paired with a nascent romance between Zoe and Sheriff Pete Adams, who has been offered a job in Hawaii at a significantly higher pay. Zoe's actions here make him think that maybe they don't have a future together, and he should take it. There is a lot to like about this story, and for the future readers can only hope that Zoe and Pete can get past this current situation as they really do make an attractive couple.
