Always Watching
The Elite Guardians Series by Lynette Eason
Review: Lynette Eason introduces the Elite Guardians, an all-female security team, in Always Watching.
Each member of the Elite Guardians has her own specific skills, which she uses to protect her client at any cost. Currently the agency has been hired by Bruce Savage to guard his son, Wade, from a stalker. Wade didn't feel the need for a guardian even though he does admit he is being stalked. One night he was attacked. He was shot in the arm with an arrow filled with a poison and before blacking out felt a blade by his throat. His body guard, Maddy, had already been attacked in her car with the poisoned dart; the attacker had slit her throat. Olivia Edwards, owner of Elite Guardians, kept in close contact with Maddy and when she got no response from her pages or calls, she immediately left to see what had happened. She found Wades body lying by his car. Someone dressed totally in black heard her coming and ran off. Olivia immediately called for an ambulance as Wade was unconscious, but breathing. It isn't clear who might be stalking Wade. He is a psychiatrist and, aside from his routine patients, he has a weekly late night radio talk show. One frequent anonymous caller had sent him gifts, including two sport T-shirts of his favorite baseball team: one in his size and one for his daughter in her exact size. Though Maddy survived, she's in no position to resume her security detail; Olivia takes over for her. The stalker is now leaving gifts at Wade's door step and is threatening those close to him. Olivia now believes that the stalker has a helper. Too much is happening for one person to be able to create such havoc. Olivia brings the rest of the team in for 24/7 guard duty. The stalker has now made it no secret that she wants Wade to be hers, and everyone else should step aside, including friends and family and the Elite Guardians.
Always Watching is an exciting novel of romantic suspense, fast-moving with several tense situations that keep the reader on edge. The characters are well-developed, including Wade's 12-year-old daughter, who becomes an unwilling pawn in the stalker's attempt to get at Wade. The relationship between Olivia and Wade is handled very well; it's clear they are attracted to each other, but Olivia has a job to do and Wade's safety, and that of his daughter, is paramount. Best of all, while there is a lot of action, explicit violence is kept to a minimum and the language is clean. This is a very strong introduction to this series, and one well worth reading.
