When a Secret Kills
A "Deadly Reunions" Mystery by Lynette Eason
Review: Jillian Carter and Colton Brady were high school sweethearts. Following her graduation dance Jillian witnessed a murder committed by Senator Frank Hoffman, Colton's uncle. Frightened and uncertain what to do, she ran away from the horror of that night. She changed her name and became an investigative reporter. Now, ten years later, her car has been bombed, killing a co-worker. She realizes that her past has caught up with her. But she is also longer a scared kid. Instead of running away again, she decides to return home and do what she should have done ten years before: tell what she saw the night of the murder, in When a Secret Kills, the third and final book in the "Deadly Reunions" trilogy by Lynette Eason.
Senator Hoffman is now seeking the position of Governor. His nephew Colton is a respected police officer. When Jillian tells Colton why she ran away, he doesn't believe her … and besides, the case is long since closed. The man suspected of the murder committed suicide, an act the police interpreted as a confession of guilt. But Jillian isn't convinced; she knows what she saw … or does she? Now even she has her doubts. Relying on her investigative reporting skills, she starts asking questions. And when it becomes clear that her questions are putting her life in danger again, Colton steps in to help.
When a Secret Kills is a fast-paced whodunit-style novel of romantic suspense. Jillian and Colton make for an exceptionally charismatic couple, and even though ten years has separated them, they feel as if they belong together. The murder mystery storyline develops in a credible manner, keeps the reader guessing throughout, and ends in a very rewarding manner, a satisfying conclusion to a well crafted trilogy of novels. (Note: Though the storyline in each of the books is independent, there are plot threads that tie them together. It is not necessary to have read the previous two books to enjoy this one, but those that have will appreciate this one all the more.)
