Review: Nikki Boyd has been a member of the Nashville, TN Police Department for more than eight years. She currently works as a specialist in the Missing Persons Special Task Force. She wanted to join this force because her sister, Sarah, has been missing for ten years and she will not give up trying to find her … or at least what happened to her. Not normally assigned to a murder case, Nikki and one of her team mates, Jack Parker, have been called in as there are two murder victims and two missing persons connected in one crime, in Missing, the second mystery in this series by Lisa Harris.

The police had received a 911 call from Mac Hudson pleading for help for him and his wife, Lucy. When the police arrived at Mac's home they found two murdered victims and three guns that had been fired, but no sign of Lucy or Mac. Their investigation leads them to the pleasure boat of Nikki's very good friend Tyler Grant, where they find him kneeling over a lifeless body. There was blood all around plus blood stains on Tyler's hands and shirt sleeves. It was the dead body of Mac Hudson. What was Hudson doing on Tyler's boat? And, where was Lucy Hudson? Nikki must unravel the complex ties that bind the Hudsons to Tyler. As the investigation continues they encounter more dead bodies, a hostage situation and mystery dealing with counterfeit drugs and a killer who will stop at nothing to keep his business operational.

Missing is a page-turner. It has what every mystery should have: an interesting cast of approachable characters that are well-drawn and believable in their roles, a simmering level of suspense that starts early and builds as the story progresses, and an investigation of relentless pursuits that have the lead characters following clues to an exciting finish. An exceptionally polished series, this entry in it is highly recommended.
