The Dead Man's Wife
A Mike Colletti Mystery by Solomon Jones
Review: Philadelphia defense attorney Andrea Wilson, one time police officer and partner of Mike Coletti, has just about everything a woman could ask for. She has a prestigious career, lives in a luxurious home, has plenty of money and a husband, Paul, who loves her dearly. The only problem: Andrea does not love Paul. One night Andrea awakens to what seems to be a living nightmare. Paul is missing, blood is everywhere … and she looks to be the guilty party in The Dead Man's Wife, the third mystery in this series by Solomon Jones.
She remembers arguing with Paul the night before — he had found out about her affair with another man — but she can't believe she killed him. Still, with no memory of what happened she decides to flee rather than face questioning by the police, taking refuge with a former client. Retired homicide detective Mike Coletti learns of Andrea's disappearance and decides to get involved himself. Andrea's most recent case involved defending a man accused of murder, a crime he vehemently denies until he suddenly admits to it. He's later found dead in his cell. Mike thinks there may be a connection between this event and another from twenty years earlier, when he and Andrea were partners on the force. Meanwhile, it seems that Paul, who was a research scientist, may have discovered a breakthrough for treating Alzheimer's disease. Could there be yet another connection between these deaths?
The Dead Man's Wife is a spirited, vibrant mystery that has a an interesting, diverse cast of characters and a strongly developed primary plotline that intersects with equally compelling subplots. An element that keeps readers guessing is that one — or more — of the characters may not be who they seem to be.
