A Robin Monarch Thriller by Mark Sullivan
Review: After the US Secretary of State and two of her colleagues from India and China are kidnapped from aboard a ship in the South China Sea, where they had been conducting secret negotiations, President Robert Sand calls in the only person who can possibly free them safely in Outlaw, the second thriller in this series by Mark Sullivan.
Robin Monarch is a thief, an outlaw, but one that the Director of the CIA convinces the President he can trust. The organization that has coordinated the kidnapping, "The Sons of Prophesy", are demanding $500 million and that all political prisoners in the US, China, and India be set free within seven days, else the three diplomats held captive will be beheaded live on the Internet. Monarch demands, and receives, $10 million for his own services to be donated to charity plus $1.5 million for each of his hand-picked team. While the US mounts its effort, India and China are also plan to carry out their own plans. Monarch quickly realizes that the kidnapping is merely a ploy for something larger. With US elections to replace outgoing two-term President Sand just a week away, that would seem to be the obvious reason for the timing of the attack. But Monarch suspects it is something else … something far more dangerous …
Outlaw is a fast-paced, exciting and intriguing novel. Readers can't help but take a liking to Robin Monarch, a seemingly everyday man but one who is brilliant, clever, intuitive, and very quick on his feet. The story has more twists and turns than most, but each contributes to a thrilling and unexpected conclusion. Definitely recommended for fans of complex spy thrillers set in exotic locales.
